New year, new journey..Just ask the universe

Just ask the universeA new year has begun. As usual, I started reading a book. It took me few weeks to finish it. Indeed, Michael Samuel books do not fail to impress the readers. ” Just ask the universe, a no nonsense guide to manifesting your dreams” is worth reading.  If you were not born with positive mental attitude, this book might help. Below are six things I learn from the book:


1.The current situation does not define who you are in the future

Life is a journey. It is who you develop as a person during the development is important.

2. The universe is everywhere and everything

Everything around you, even the things you cannot see, touch, hear, experience is the Universe in motion. It flows through and around you. You are a part of it. Everything you need will come to you at the perfect time.

At times we are all afraid of losing what we have, whether its our life or others or our possessions. But this year evaporates when we understand that our life stories and history of the world were written by the same hand ( The alchemist, Paul Coelho)

3. The seeds and your garden

At the end of the day, all you need is clear mind. Your future is just as you imagined. Your thoughts are seeds. You have to take care of it by loving and nurturing. Remove all the negative emotions since  they are like rocks, which weigh you down.

4. Universal laws and boomerang decisions.

Be kind to anyone.

Don’t wish anything bad to others, even someone who hurts you so badly in the past. That only brings bad things to your karma life.

Wish to others all the best you can and the Universe will wear a big smile when you change the way you feel about that person.

5. Think and thank

Through thick and thin, be gracious for everything and everyone, everyday.

The more gratefully we fix our minds on the Supreme when good things come to us, the more good things we will receive, and the more rapidly they will come; and the reason simply is that the mental attitude of gratitude draws the mind into closer touch with the source from which the blessings come ( Wallace D. Wattles)

6. Setback or stepping stones

Life is a series of experiences, each one of which makes us bigger, even though sometimes it is hard to realize this. For the world was built to develop character, and we must learn that the setbacks and grieves which we endure help us in our marching onward ( Henry Ford)

Ahead of you might lay disappointments and difficulties. Be aware that they are a part of life. If everything is ready and easy, where would all adventures are? Take all the setbacks as stepping stones to reach your dreams.

However bad life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. While there is life, there is hope ( Stephen Hawking)

I’m grateful for the opportunity to explore more about myself 🙂 Indeed, it has been a while since the last time I wrote a post. The rules requiring facts about yourself, which makes me decide to pause a little bit and spend some time thinking about how to express it in words. In order to do this award, I would like to share some things I’ve recently done in these autumn days.

  1. Oulu.

I came to the North of Finland one day in autumn during the second last weekend in October.  I had a memorable trip there. The very first impression I had when arriving at Oulu was quietness and peacefulness. Far from Helsinki, Oulu is a peaceful destination.

With Someone’s help, we had a chance to discover the city more easier.  Thanks for Someone being the tour guide and organizing things.  Thanks Someone’s friends for inviting us to home.

2. Halloween part 1

Halloween to me this year is the day I actually started a new hobby: knitting.

At Vihreä Vyyhti Shop ( it is near Hakaniemi metro station, Helsinki) , we can find many high-quality and colorful wool

3. Halloween part 2: movie

Halloween is also a day for watching some scary movie. I watched Dracula Untold few days ago. This movie was first released during Halloween time in 2014. One year has passed. Watching this movie again in 2015 Halloween is not a bad idea at all. In my opinion, Luke Evans does not fail to perform such a tough and strong-mind ruler to protect his kingdom together with his beloved ones. Their strong love for each other ( expressed via their desperate eyes when they slip away from each other 1:54-1:55, plus the scene Minerall dies in his arms) really impresses me. In addition, it’s the heart-touching moment when he holds his son, gives a sharp look to his enemies (0:46), then tells him :” Run to your mother”, and fight for his family. I heard from somewhere, saying that, you are only brave when you have something to fight for. And it’s so true 🙂

4. Halloween part 3: Cooking vs baking

I did not celebrate something big for Halloween this year. I made Pumpkin soup, stewed meatball ( mushroom, onion, garlic, and spices) and Dorayaki. Dorayaki is Japanese red bean pancake.

4. Photography course

This autumn I also began to learn street photography at Helsingin Aikuisopisto. I have not done this before, so this course gives me a chance to look the world via different angles.

Was preparing for a photo exhibition. Our class has a small exhibition to share the photos we have taken


As a beginner, the first thing I learn when shooting photo is that there should be a strong subject before taking. Once that subject is found, we should focus on one angle we would like to share to others. Focus is the key, and maybe it is true in other aspects of life as well.

5. Let the music heal your soul

Music is the expression of the movement of the waters, the play of curves described by changing breezes ( Claude Debussy)

One of my favorite music is meditation music as it is really relaxing. That kind of music gives me peacefulness, for example, this one is really good 😀

The miracle of mindfulness

May every sunrise hold more promise. May every moonrise hold more peace

Few months ago, I came across a book about mindfulness while wandering in Akateeminen Bookstore in Helsinki. If you’ve ever felt your ground is shaken and daily life schedule overwhelms you, ” The miracle of mindfulness” can help you still your mind and get you balanced. Written by Thich Nhat Hanh, it is a guide to slow down our life and regain our present awareness. As a master of Zen and ” Farther of Mindfulness”, the author shows readers how to develop true understanding and peace. With his guidance, even a small act, like washing dishes or eating tangerine can become acts of meditation. Elegantly written, “The miracle of mindfulness” become a classic guide. It “sowed the seeds of a revolution ..powerful and relevant” ( Mark Williams, Emeritus Professor of Clinical Psychology, University of Oxford).

Here are few absorbing points from the book:

  • The essential discipline- Focus is the key

Whatever you are doing, put all attention on it without letting the thoughts of future interfere and distract.

If while washing dishes, we think only of the cup of tea that awaits us, thus hurrying to get the dishes out of the way as if they were a nuisance, then we are not “washing the dishes to wash the dishes.” What’s more, we are not alive during the time we are washing the dishes. In fact we are completely incapable of realizing the miracle of life while standing at the sink. If we can’t wash the dishes, the chances are we won’t be able to drink our tea either. While drinking the cup of tea, we will only be thinking of other things, barely aware of the cup in our hands. Thus we are sucked away into the future -and we are incapable of actually living one minute of life.”

  • How to practice mindfulness?

Mindfulness itself is a life of awareness. In order to practice mindfulness, taking hold of one’s breath is advised. Breath indeed is a connection to consciousness. Whenever your mind is scattered, it’d better to used breath to take control of current situation again.

For example, when you are in pain or simply some painful memories from the past arise, we should treat those emotion gently, not resisting it, but living with it, making peace with it. Let go of everything with peace. Imagine you are like a pebble sinking to a riverbed. Detached from everything, it just goes down and reaches its destination. When you feel yourself like a pebble reaching the riverbed, you find a place of peacefulness. You are no longer pushed or pulled by anything.

According to the book, just quiet your breath and be aware of each breath. When breathing in a long breath, you know ” I am breathing in a long breath. When breathing out a long breath, you know : “I am breathing out a long breath”. You can start counting your breaths. For each breathing in and out, count 1, and continue to 10. Without focus and attention, you can easily lose the count. Once you lose the count, start over from 1 until you can keep the counting correct. As long as you truly focus, you can reach the points where you can forget the counting method, and concentrate on solely breathing.

  • Where is miracle?

“Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don’t even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child—our own two eyes. All is a miracle.”

Maybe our busy and fast-track daily life makes it hard for us to recognize simple yet beautiful things.

Many people assume that walking on water or thin air is miracle, but miracles lie in everywhere around us.

Miracle is to walk on earth.


Or it’s simply a walk in the nature with a soothing and peaceful song 🙂

My story of how I started this blog is simple: I’d like to challenge myself to do something I haven’t done before. Thus, I chose blogging to share my world, and connect with others. To inspire and get inspired 🙂

A piece of advice 

I started blogging in the spring of 2015. I am still new to blogging and there are still a lot of things for me to learn. However, I find it helpful to be ourselves and be original. Just write about what you like and what you are passionate about 🙂  It’s ok when nothing comes to your mind. Nobody is perfect.  Follow the flows of your inner voice. Keep calm and just walk  forwards although slowly. The pace is not important as long as you are willing to improve better 🙂

Yesterday midnight I came across an engaging post about sincere love written by a blogger from Finland: Peaceful joki. Simply written, the author brings up new perspective about sincere love. Love is giving, sharing, and honest. Based on a poem about love of Rumi, the author Peaceful joki clearly explains and expresses his opinions about sincere love. ”The way of love is not a subtle argument. The door there is devastation. Birds make great sky circles of their freedom. How do they do it? They fall and falling then they are given wings”  From the post, I found one profound message behind the writing: If you really love to do something, do it sincerely, and with your heart because just like a boomerang, some day the thing you do will love you back 🙂

Finally, I’d love to share this video of a talented dancer, Eila. She is from Spain and she moved to New York when she was 19 years old. It is said that a professional dancer has to train for their whole life, but live for few moments in their performance. Changing from ballet to contemporary, her passion of dancing impressed me. I hope you will get inspired by her elegant, and graceful moments. I also wish those who read this post will find their hopes and work for their dreams.

Quiet Impact. Quiet Revolution

WP_20150809_17_25_20_ProWritten by Sylvia Loehken, Quiet impact is a handbook for introverts.  As a good book with a little wisdom, Quiet Impact increases readers’ awareness about their strengths and challenges. Consisting of 3 main parts, and 9 chapters, Quiet Impact reveals hidden treasure together with obstacles’ introverts. Simply written, it guides how to have a happy private life and successful professionally. With examples in different occasions, many advice are given, ranging from how to establish and cultivate contacts to how to speak in meetings, in public and in negotiations.
Although it is a book for introverts, extroversion is also highlighted in the book. It is persuasively written with interesting points related to comfort zone, Carl Jung’s theory, as well as Yin &Yang.
Unlike Freud, C.Jung believes that introversion and extroversion can complement each other to broaden outlook and perspective despite of contrasts. One will be able to do things that the other finds difficult. Like man vs women, or like Yin & Yang, dark side and white side complete the whole thing. Although differences between extrovert and introvert might be a threat, causing challenges,  they can enrich the relation  between them.


The very first part of the book concentrates on describing typical introverts and extroverts. According to the book, extroverts are known as joyful, excited, exuberant, or even euphoric and tend to take risks. They are comfortable with external perspective. They need more stimulus from outside world because contacting with others is how they generate. Therefore, outward calm is a challenge for extroverts and it is hard to “stimulate themselves internally to the same level of intensity”. If stimulation with outside world is lack, they are quickly to become restless.

On the other hand, introverts recharge their batteries via peace and quiet. They need time to reflect and check observations against what is happening in their minds and outside world. They are cautious. They tell what makes them tick, what is important or enthusiastic to them, and what they are concerned about to only a few people. When communicating, they prefer deep, profound and meaningful to broad conversation. Thinking before act, they tend to check whether the information they give is important, relevant, and fitting or not. Trying to deal with others gently and to avoid conflicts, they also put themselves in listeners’ position before responding. Thus, it is no surprise to know 10 valuable strengths of introverts: caution, substance, concentration, listening, calm, analytical thinking, independence, tenacity, writing( rather than speaking), and empathy. In the corresponding those strengths, introverts obstacles are also listed and analyzed.

 Fear, too much attention to detail, over-stimulation, passivity, escape, being unduly cerebral, self-deception, fixation, avoiding contact and avoiding conflict are issues that introverts need to overcome. What I found it appreciate is that the author does not push introverts to change, but she lets readers be aware of the challenges and gives proper strategies to confront those difficulties.

Part 2 and part 3 focus on  shaping private space and workplace together with making your presence felt and listened to. Then, the book ends with one special part: the prospects for a fulfilling life as an introvert. Sometimes, it’s worth living out the coolness of being quiet and behaving like an extrovert. As an introvert, I found her call-to-action message so powerful 🙂

For all my friends, whether close or casual, just because. This is one of the longest posts I will ever make, and one of the most real too. Everyone will go through some hard times at some point. Life isn’t easy. Just something to think about.

Did you know the people that are the strongest are usually the most sensitive?

Did you know the people who exhibit the most kindness are the first to get mistreated?

Did you know the ones who take care of others all the time are usually… the ones who need it the most?

Did you know the three hardest things to say are I love you, I’m sorry, and help me?

Sometimes just because a person looks happy, you have to look past their smile to see how much pain they may be in.

To all my friends who are going through some issues right now–let’s start an intentional avalanche. We all need positive intentions right now. If I don’t see your name, I’ll understand.

The art of happiness

Have you ever wondered what makes our day count and our life become meaningful everyday we wake up? Has ever the purpose of life came across your mind? Happiness is a abstract word. Even the word is deprived from the Icelandic word happ, which means luck or chance, so how can we create something when that thing itself is somehow vague?

Happiness actually depends mostly on our thoughts and attitudes.

As Aristotle said Happiness depends on ourselves, “The art of happiness” also states that happiness can be reached through training the mind. Happiness is determined more by one’s state of mind than by external events. The book can ease readers’ mind. For those who are seeking roads to happiness, ” The art of happiness” is worth reading.


The art of happiness is written by HH Dalai Lama, who won Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 and Howard C. Cutler, who runs a psychiatric practice in Arizona.

The book combines the Dalai Lama’s eastern spiritual tradition with Dr Howard C. Cutler’s western perspectives. As ” an intriguing encounter between East and West” ( Mail on Sunday), The art of happiness covers opinions on dealing with everyday human problems and leading a happier life. The book consists of 15 chapters, which focuses on discussing the purpose of life, human warmth & compassion, suffering transformation, obstacles overcoming, and reflection on living a spiritual life.

“Sometimes when I meet old friends, it reminds me how quickly time passes. And it makes me wonder if we’ve utilized our time properly or not. Proper utilization of time is so important. While we have this body, and especially this amazing human brain, I think every minute is something precious. But we are working for that purely on the basis of hope. So, we need to make the best use of our time. When life becomes too complicated and we feel overwhelmed, it’s often useful just to stand back and remind ourselves of our overall purpose, our overall goal. When faced with a feeling of stagnation and confusion, it may be helpful to take an hour, an afternoon, or even several days to simply reflect on what it is that will truly bring us happiness, and then reset our priorities on the basis of that. This can put our life back in proper context, allow a fresh perspective, and enable us to see which direction to take

Finally my summer holiday starts. As the saying goes: a good holiday starts with a good book, I started reading the hundred-foot journey, then had a one day trip to Porvoo on the last Saturday of May.
